|TiNi Aerospace's family of SMA actuated Pinpullers may be used to secure and release numerous deployables. Pin retraction is achieved by coupling the recovery characteristics of Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) material with TiNi's patented detent mechanism. Nitinol (Nickel-Titanium) element is used to trigger energy release stored in a loaded compression spring.
The Pinpuller is a uniquely simple and effective device which offers the following key features:
- Flight Qualified
Since its outer space debut aboard the Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft in November 1996, the TiNi Pinpullers have been qualified and used on numerous other space applications.
- Fast Acting
By directly passing current through the Nitinol element, the Pinpullers perform in millisecond time frame making them ideal for synchronized and simultaneous release of multiple tie-down payloads.
- Redundant Firing Circuit
As with all TiNi Actuators a redundant SMA circuit is incorporated. This provides complete electrical redundancy as well as mechanical redundancy for the critical TiNi trigger element.
- Auto Shut-Off Switches
Simple Auto Shut Off Switches are incorporated into each Pinpuller to protect the TiNi Trigger. Once actuation takes place, the Auto Shutt-Off Switch cuts off the power source from the TiNi element. Additionally, each redundant firing circuit has its own dedicated Auto Shut-Off Switch.
- Simple Reset
The mechanism is reset by simply re-extending the output shaft or Pin which may be accessed from the front or rear of the Pinpuller.
The Pinpuller product family falls into two groups, Standard Pinpullers and Custom Pinpullers. The Standard pinpullers have similar design features and are offered in different load capacity to fit customer needs.
