TiNi’s Separation Nut works on the basis of a traditional segmented nut which is made to separate on command to release a tie down bolt. TiNi’s mechanism, however, is fully reusable and field resettable and uses two independent TiNi Pinpullers as the means for actuation to offer the utmost in redundancy and reliability.
TINI SEP NUT OFFERS THE FOLLOWING ADVANTAGES:
NEA (Non-Explosive Actuators) – As with all TiNi products, the Sep Nut is non-pyrotechnic and field reset-able with a minimum qualified life of 20 cycles.
High Load Capability – The Sep Nuts are scalable in size and designed for applications ranging in load from 5000 to 20,000 lbf. This is made possible by using all “roller contacts” which minimize friction and distribute loads in a homogenous manner.
Field Reset-able and Reliable – The Sep Nut is reset by re-cocking the drive spring and resetting each of the Pinpuller’s that are used to release it. The use of 2 independent Pinpullers increases reliability significantly by offering both electrical and mechanical redundancy.
Fast Acting – By directly passing current through the SMA element, TiNi Sep Nuts perform in millisecond time frame making them ideal for instantaneous release applications such as spacecraft deployment with multiple tie down points.
Auto Shut-Off Switches – Simple Auto Shut Off Switches are incorporated into each Sep Nut Actuator (aka Pinpuller) to protect the TiNi Trigger. These may also be used for telemetry purposes.
