TiNi’s Shackle Release was developed for Subsea rigging applications which require support and release of critical payloads remotely.  The release function is achieved by using one of TiNi’s subsea Frangibolts coupled to powerful jaws which provide a leveraging mechanism much like a pair of pliers.  Scalable design allows hold down and release of loads in excess of 100,000 lbf.

TINI Shackle Release offers the following advantages:

NEA (Non-Explosive Actuators) – 
As with all TiNi products, the Shackle Release is non-pyrotechnic and field reset-able with a minimum qualified life of 50 cycles.

Field Reset-able and Reliable – 
The Shackle Release is reset by simply reloading the Frangibolt Actuator (and Fastener) which provides the hold down and release function.

Rated to 5,000 psi  –  The Shackle Release is rugged in design and may be used in direct sea water at great depths

Redundant Firing Circuit – As with all TiNi Actuators a redundant firing circuit is incorporated that may be operated from a variety of voltage sources (from 28 to 120 Vdc).

Safe to Use – 
The Shackle Release is safe to use and requires no special precautions in handling, usage, or transport.   It is also not sensitive to ESD (Electro-Static Discharge) or EMI (Electro-Magnetic Interference).

Shackle Release Options


The SR50K Shackle Release is rated to release loads up to 50,000 lbf (222,411 N).   It is available with embedded telemetry switches which can be used to detect actuation.   As with all TiNi products, key attributes include:

Shackle Release Accessories


All of Shackle Release are rated to have a minimum life of 40 cycles. For continued testing and re usability, TiNi provides Shackle Release reset tools as shown. These are made up of a high quality hydraulic pump, cylinder and pressure gage designed to generate the force and stroke required to compress the actuator.

In order to reset Shackle Release, Subsea Frangibolt must be removed from the Shackle.  Once removed, compression of the Subsea Frangibolt actuator is a simple 3 step process: First, install the unit in the fixture as shown. Second, pump the handle until the prescribed pressure is reached. Third, release the pressure via the bleed screw and remove the actuator. The whole process may be carried out in less than 30 seconds.  The reset Subsea Frangibolt must be installed with a new fastener (provided by TiNi Aerospace) in order to close the Shackle Release jaw to capture the load. The size and weight of the Frangibolt Compression Fixture make it fully portable allowing easy transport.
